Child Activity Center-An approach for better education and child protection

A study of the ‘Activity centers’ run by EveryChild India/Sree Gowthama Grama Kalyana Kendra, Kortagere, Karnataka-India

Child Activity center is a concept developed to ensure quality education and protection for children vulnerable to trafficking through a parallel education system.

This parallel education system involves a place amidst the community dwellings where every child comes to study, learn and enjoy regularly. Every evening the teacher at the activity center checks the children on the roll and keeps a check on those missing. In Dalit societies where children are vulnerable to trafficking of all kinds, Activity Center through its daily roll call helps preventing child trafficking in addition to providing them with additional educational help.

The study ‘Child Activity Center, An approach for better education and child protection is based on an analysis of the activity centers run by EveryChild/Sree Gowthama Grama Kalyana Kendra, Kortagere from 2006 to November 2008.
