FENCE
FENCE is a community based organization in Siruguppa Block, Bellary district of North Karnataka, India. FENCE is committed to address issues of holistic regional development of the poorest of the poor, socially-culturally-politically-economically oppressed and marginalised dalit communities specifically the Madiga community (untouchable and lowest dalit community), with emphasis on women and children. FENCE stands for Equality!
FENCE is registered under the Karnataka Registration Act. The organization is an out spring of the dalits movement in Karnataka. The dalits movement in Karnataka became active and caught momentum in the 1990s. There were effective struggles against untouchablity, corruption, atrocities on dalits which took place in North Karnataka. One of the dalit leaders Mr.Ranjith Bonaventure hailing from this region was a part of this movement. He currently heads the organisation.
FENCE is committed to work for the Madiga community. It encourages poor people to strive for a better quality of life, organizes people to fight for their basic rights of life and livelihood, encourage them to improve their situations. It has been making efforts to enhance the children’s skills and ability to learn and reduce school dropout rate in the project area. FENCE has been involved in organizing dalits especially Madigas who are landless agricultural women labourers in 50 villages and labour camps (Women's Sanghas, i.e. Collectives). Organizing dalits youth groups is also an important agenda of the organization.

EveryChild and FENCE: Working together
EveryChild India and Fence entered into a partnership in 2007 to implement the Bidugade project in 50 villages of Siruguppa Taluk of Bellary District, Karnataka. Through the Project the organisation has established the child activity centres in each of these villages for marginalised children, facilitated the formation of women’s banks to make the community women economically independent and more politically aware through group savings and internal loans, providing higher education support and hostel facilities for Madiga children, social analysis and leadership trainings, programmes towards eradication of child labour and Devadasi system, awareness on govt. programmes for dalits, preparing the dalit community to assert their own rights for employment by making the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme reach to all.
