'Sex, Death and the Gods'- Documentary on Devadasi in India is shown on BBC

Due to a high number of viewers, 'Sex, Death and the Gods' will be aired again on BB4 tonight at 9pm.
Directed by Beeban Kidron, ‘Sex, Death and the Gods’ investigates the history of the Devadasi system and includes interviews with girls affected by the practice today who are now sexually exploited. EveryChild is the only international NGO working to protect young girls from the practice in the area and worked closely with the film makers to give the background to the issue via our long-standing project work in the region. Whilst the only international NGO in the area, EveryChild supports the work of local partner MASS and SGGK, organisations made up of former Devadasi.

'Sex, Death and the Gods'- BBC4 film on Devadasi in India to air tonight

Tonight BBC4 will transmit a new thought-provoking documentary about the ancient Devadasi practice in Northern Karnataka, India which leads to girls from poor backgrounds being exploited in the sex industry. Directed by Beeban Kidron, ‘Sex, Death and the Gods’ investigates the history of the Devadasi system and includes interviews with girls affected by the practice today who are now sexually exploited. EveryChild is the only international NGO working to protect young girls from the practice in the area and worked closely with the film makers to give the background to the issue via our long-standing project work in the region. New EveryChild report on World AIDS Day

A report by EveryChild has found that children affected by HIV or AIDS are often separated from their families, despite wanting to stay together and despite their families being capable of looking after them. Positively Caring, released on World AIDS Day, examines the impact of HIV on the home life and care of children in India, Malawi and Ukraine and finds that children affected by HIV are more likely to be placed in institutions or driven away from their families by poverty and stigma.
